To say that Salman Khan has recorded a historic career this decade would be an understatement. From the office to the audience, Salman Khan’s current career has been labeled one of the best views of a Hindi movie star. And worthy of that. The superstar has created several albums in the last 8 years, which includes the consistency of delivering 13 consecutive revenues of Rs 100 crore earners. The trade believes that this is a record that will have no rival in the coming years, and given the pace at which Khan is working, it would not be surprising that soon becomes the only actor to have the unique record of having 15 films in the club Rs 100 crore, and that also consecutively.
In this decade, Salman Khan achieved everything, that is, the record opening, the record weekend and the week of the recording, and the only thing he has yet to achieve is a grosser total. Of the 14 releases of this decade, 9 of them turned out to be “Blockbusters”, while 1, that is, Prem Ratan Dhan Payo proved to be a success. The other four films, namely Veer, Jai Ho, Tubelight and Race 3 did not work as well as expected. In fact, films like Jai Ho, Tubelight and Race 3 raised more than Rs 100 at the box office, but are considered low performers because of the high standards set by Salman Khan. To add to that, the price paid by the distributors to buy the film was not justified by the theatrical collection of the 3 previous films.
Whether on screen or off-screen, Salman Khan is a person who never stops appearing in the headlines. His stardom has been compared to some of the greatest superstars of the past like Amitabh Bachchan, Dharmendra and Rajesh Khanna, which in itself demonstrates its control over the audience. Salman Khan in this decade has a mix of both the volume of releases and a large number of successes, which makes the achievement even better. While most of the blockbusters starring Khan came during the Eid festive season, one can not deny the fact that it was Khan who created this festival and made it his own.
The aggregate collections of these 14 Salman films are in a devastating total of Rs 2603 crores. The average collection per film is Rs 186.07 crore, and this is a factor that shows how consistent Salman has been in the delivery of the gross grand. With only a year and a half left to the end of this decade, we wonder if Khan would surpass the gigantic figure of Rs 3000 crore at the box office in just 10 years or not. To achieve this phenomenon, the next release of Khan, Bharat, directed by Ali Abbas Zafar, should raise 397 million rupees or more at the national box office in India. Basically, as things are nowadays, an All Time Grosser has to emerge in the Hindi belt to allow Khan to overcome the prestigious brand. And coincidentally, All Time Grosser is the only feat that Salman has not achieved in this decade.
